Airline Miles

Do you like accumulating points so that you can use them for your free flights to dream destinations? I do too. I’ve used air miles to visit 4 continents.

Airline credit cards for the most part work on a dollar for dollar spend amount. However, they often give bonus miles if you use the card to purchase tickets on their airline. Sometimes 3 miles per 1 dollar. Almost every card has some bonus mileage offer for opening the card. In fact, some people use the strategy of opening a new card just for the bonus miles to top off their account to get that free airline ticket. We don’t recommend doing this because revolving credit looks bad on your credit score.

Know the airline and the routes they fly with before you sign up with an airline credit card. You may want to say sign up for an American Airlines card if you live in or near one of their Hub cities of Dallas, Miami, Chicago, or LA. Conversely, Continental, with Newark, Cleveland, or Houston. Even if you don’t live near a hub you can always check their partner airlines because you can earn the same miles with them too.

*If you do use a partner airline of your Airline Miles Card, you will want to make sure that the partner airlines has the same mileage earning scale for the similar flight class that you are interested in flying.
